About the College/Unit/Department | The Georgia College Advising Corps (GCAC) works in underserved high schools throughout Georgia to increase the number of low-income, first-generation, and underrepresented students who attend and complete higher education. We help students find their way to college by placing well-trained, recent college graduates in high schools to work one-on-one with students as they navigate the complex college admissions process, including researching college options, completing applications, and applying for financial aid. |

Position Summary | The Georgia College Advising Corps (GCAC) seeks service-minded recent graduates to lead low income, first-generation, and underrepresented students to college. We look for individuals who offer a variety of professional and academic experiences who are friendly, self-motivated, and passionate about our mission. College advisers work alongside counseling staff in underserved public high schools throughout the state of Georgia. They assist students with navigating the college admissions process. This includes helping each student identify potential colleges, complete college applications, identify financial aid and scholarship opportunities and complete forms and applications, prepare and register for college entrance examinations, and make informed postsecondary plans. GCAC college advisers are members of the College Advising Corps. This is an AmeriCorps Service Member position. |
Relevant/Preferred Education, Experience, Licensure, Certification in Position | Advisers should have earned a Bachelor’s degree by July 2024 and should have graduated from high school between 2018 and 2021. Advisers should have a strong desire to serve and they should work well with a wide variety of populations. |
