About Us Founded by John and Kim Puckett, Caribou Coffee was inspired by a long climb to the top of Sable Mountain in Alaska. When the couple reached the summit, they looked out over the vast Denali mountain range and were struck by the honest, natural beauty of a herd of caribou thundering through the valley below. When John and Kim got home, they decided to create a place that would feel as good as the view from that mountain. A place where people could take a break and enjoy the simple, good things in life: a great cup of coffee, the daily newspaper, and a conversation with a friend. John and Kim opened their first store in Minneapolis in December of 1992.

Environment Headquartered in Minneapolis, Caribou Coffee Company is the nation's second largest specialty coffee company with hundreds of stores and 4,000+ employees in 13 states and the District of Columbia. Caribou's stores have the look and feel of an Alaskan lodge, with knotty-pine cabinetry, a fireplace, and soft seating.

Products Whether you buy whole, luscious beans to brew at home, or a steaming cup that we've prepared, you're receiving our labor of love: our passion for amazing coffee. At Caribou, we treat our beans right, from start to finish - from selecting the best green beans, to creating blends, roasting, keeping beans fresh, and brewing. At every point in the process, we accept only the highest-quality beans and employ the highest standards, no matter what the cost. Inferior brands seek out the least expensive beans and processing methods, resulting in inferior coffee. To complement your drink, we offer light-fare foods, including baked goods, sandwiches and sweet treats from our own private label BOU Gourmet, as well as other “Grab-N-Go” extras.
