We are looking for rare talent motivated to make a difference for patients living with serious diseases. Are you interested in helping bring new innovation to market? We are looking for a talented individual to fill the position of: Commercial Operations Lead. The Commercial Operations Lead will be responsible for the design and launch of a new business unit within the US UCB organization. They will also support sales and marketing efforts for the US UCB Orphan and Rare Disease BU, through the management of the following functions:

  • Business Analytics & Insights
  • Field force training and development
  • Convention and meeting planning
  • Launch excellence and innovation
  • Primary & secondary market research

As key member of the US Commercial Leadership team, and reporting directly into the Head of Early Commercialization US nPVU, the Commercial Operations Lead will partner closely with their sales, marketing and managed markets counterparts on all aspects of commercial planning, pull-through, and ongoing measurement. This role will require a dynamic leader that is able to achieve business goals while simultaneously building his/her teams. This is a high impact, inspirational role within the dynamic commercial organization that will require great technical, leadership, and collaboration skills to be successful.

  • Serve as a 'Chief of Staff' to the Head of Early Commercialization US nPVU, and own the US Commercial Leadership team meeting calendar and agenda
  • Oversee and coordinate the business planning process (EA, SA, strategic & tactical brand plan, and budget
  • Demonstrate executive presence through a collaborative voice, while engaging multiple levels of leadership with UCB

You will contribute by:

  • Developing a consistent construct and framework across the UCB Orphan and Rare Disease portfolio for Environmental Assessment, Situation Analysis (by brand) Strategic Brand Planning, and budgeting processes
  • Facilitating US Commercial Leadership team meetings
  • Supporting the Head of Early Commercialization US nPVU and global teams ad hoc
  • Leading and developing of direct reports ranging from Manager through Executive Director
  • Owning US data contracts to support sales and managed market's needs
  • Overseeing and managing of all sales operation's functions supporting the field
  • Serving across US functions as PMO for innovation or special projects teams
  • Proactively developing insight, market opportunity, and identification of changes to the competitive market in addition to reactive partnership with marketing/sales on research needs
  • Managing consultant, agency and vendor relationships as necessary
  • Recruiting, training, managing, and optimizing team while creating a culture that centers around cross-functional collaboration and accountability

Interested? For this position you'll need the following education, experience and skills:

  • Bachelor's degree required, MBA preferred
  • 10+ years of multi-functional pharmaceutical/biotech experience from market research/business analysis, marketing/strategic planning, or sales/sales operations leadership functions
  • Previous experience scoping departments, hiring and coaching effective teams
  • Prior product launch experience
  • Broad understanding of the orphan and rare disease market (HCP/pt journeys, treatment flows, forecast models)
  • Leadership skills and ability to collaborate across functions and organizations in a highly complex and dynamic environment
  • Ability to create and communicate a clear vision and effectively align resources and activities to achieve organizational goals
  • Strong executive presence, direct and in-direct influencing skills to generate commitment and constructively resolve issues while supporting multiple projects simultaneously
  • Ability to thrive in ambiguity, with an entrepreneurial mind-set and a track record of results
  • Resourceful, decisive and proactive approach to managing multiple priorities in a fast-growing organization
  • Must have proficiency with Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, and TEAMS

Transversal Competencies Across Roles at UCB in Rare Disease:

  • Patient Journey Understanding & Experience: Holistic thinking with patient access as end goal. Develop an asset considering not only the approval but also how the first patient can get access to the drug as well as how can they continue to have a seamless patient experience during the entire product lifecycle, until the last patient access. This requires understanding and consideration of different perspectives as well as influencing up, down and laterally to reach the best outcome for the last patient.
  • Rare Disease Ecosystem Partnering & Shaping: Demonstrates a deep understanding and awareness of the local ecosystem which shapes the patient experience. Possess the ability to partner internally and externally to find patients, connect them to the right resources, removing barriers and enabling faster, more effective treatment for patients living with rare diseases.
  • Medical, Scientific & Therapeutic Area Expertise: Acquiring scientific and medical knowledge around rare disease to ensure being scientifically sound, as well as ability to acquire and/or deepen knowledge about new therapeutic areas and indications. Understand operational impact and apply new expertise in context.
