JOB SUMMARY

The Mechanical Systems Designer will work directly with members of our Engineering Team to prepare design and shop drawings aligned with McKenney's drafting standards that support our design, and construction teams. You'll prepare construction package drawings for HVAC, Mechanical Piping, and Plumbing for facilities, including dimensioned plans, sections, details, equipment schedules, and control diagrams. You'll receive project assignments from the project lead engineer and work with field personnel, project managers, cooperative education students, and other CAD professionals to perform project-related tasks. We'll lean on you to collaborate with related disciplines and designers from other disciplines to create high-quality multi-discipline drawing packages for issues to clients.

DUTIES & ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

* Utilize project criteria, applicable building and industry codes, McKenney's CAD standards, and BIM execution plans (where applicable) to create accurate mechanical and plumbing drawings consistent with both, company, and project requirements.

* Create three-dimensional (and single line/2D) CAD models of HVAC/sheet metal duct, piping, and plumbing systems for design, coordination, and fabrication of these systems.

* Coordinate all duct, piping, and plumbing and access requirements with other building trades, walls, ceilings, and architectural and structural elements, to avoid installation and access conflicts in the field.

* Work directly with engineers, co-op students, and other designers to accurately model HVAC, piping, and plumbing systems from verbal and written descriptions, sketches, existing drawings, and electronic images.

* Effectively and proactively communicate with engineers, project managers, and field foreman during the drafting and construction process. This includes identifying and communicating deficiencies/challenges with proposed solutions and scheduling progress on a timely basis (weekly at a minimum).

* Attend coordination meetings and communicate with other trades to develop highly coordinated models.

* Perform file management functions such as posting models, downloading model updates, managing links, and historic versions.

* Maintain design drawing standards for both AutoCAD and Revit platforms.

o Work with Senior Mechanical Designers or Superusers to create Revit families and content.

* Leverage Bluebeam or other PDF editing software to produce drawings and backgrounds for design and/or as-built condition purposes.

* Maintain existing building drawing record file structure and ensure new drawings are in compliance with existing standards for future access.

* Train co-op students on how to produce design drawings in compliance with department standards.

* Ensure design drawings produced by co-op students meet department standards.

* Use Company tools to manage requests for information and shop drawing progress.

* Work with the project manager and field foreman to create As-Built condition drawings for projects.

* Produce all documents on time and within budget (estimated drafting hours) promptly based on job requirements to meet commitments to our customers, both internal and external.

* Actively pursue self-development of skills as it relates to the duties of this job position.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

* Two-year technical or associate degree in computer Aided Drafting/Construction Technology or similar.

* Minimum of 3 years working in a mechanical/plumbing tradeor

3 years of design experience using Revit MEP 2018 or higher.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

* Experience with mechanical systems drafting using Autodesk Fabrication CADmep software.

* Ability to layout and re-size mechanical ductwork, piping, plumbing, and similar activities.

* Ability to visualize three-dimensional layouts from two-dimensional drawings.

* Ability to read and interpret mechanical, architectural, and structural construction documents.

* Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet simultaneous deadlines. Flexible with work schedule and willing to work overtime if required to meet project requirements.

* Strong written and verbal communication skills.

WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL EFFORT:

* Work is normally performed in a typical interior/office environment.

* Work will require construction job site visits. This will require the physical ability to climb permanent and temporary stairs and ladders, passenger use of construction personnel hoists, and the ability to negotiate work areas under construction.

* Light physical effort handling average-weight objects up to 25 pounds may be required occasionally.
