The Medication Aide coordinates resident care related to medications by working with all departments, the medical community, families and administrative staff to provide for resident needs with continuity and an adherence to the scope of practice and licensure for the community. The Medication Aide provides complete supervision of the medication room, passing techniques, documentation, and supervision and provision of care related to medication in the community.

Responsibilities of the Medication Aide:
* Pass and assist with administration of medications in accordance with the Community and Georgia Assisted Living Community Rules and Regulations.
* Ensure that the policies and procedures are effective and enforced to support the health and safety of the residents.
* Ensure that all medication documentation is current and correct, including medication administration forms, physician orders, change of dosages, written orders, etc.
* Maintain resident charts and keep documentation current.
* Ensure the medication carts and medication room is completely stocked with all required continuous, PRN, Over-the-Counter (OTC), and other medications as ordered by the physician and allowed under Regulations.
* Control medication carts, medication room access, and key assignment.
* Communicate resident status changes to Wellness Manager and families.
* Review and utilize the Community's disaster preparedness plan for staff and residents to follow in case of fire, explosion, natural disaster, or other emergency, including interruption of electrical power supply, gas-heating supply and water supply.
* Notify Wellness Manager of at-risk residents in need of a higher level of care.
* Coordinate care planning with families, physicians, and home health agencies while working within the Community's policies and procedures.
* Coordinate medication orders and deliveries with pharmacies.
* Assist in updating assessments and care plans as needed.
* Assist in the training of care staff and participate in orientation of new staff.
* Perform room checks on a regular basis.
* Attend monthly staff meetings and complete all necessary in-service training.
* Read all shift change acknowledgement notes.
* Review and follow the employee handbook guidelines.
* Oversee care plan charting by caregiving staff.
* Hold, answer, and manage the after-hours cellular phone.
* Other duties as assigned by the Wellness Manager, Resident Care Coordinator or Administrator.

Position Requirements:
* Must be at least 18 years of age.
* Must have an acceptable criminal background record check.
* Must keep a current certification in emergency first aid and CPR.
* Must have a clear tuberculosis screening upon hire to assure that the employee is free of diseases communicable within the scope of employment.
* Must have a physical examination prior to employment and as required by the Community after an injury or illness to assure that the employee is physically qualified to work.
* Certified Medication Aides must be in good standing with the Georgia Certified Medication Aide Registry at all times. LPNs/RNs must have a current license and be in good standing.
* Certified Medication Aides that are terminated by the company for cause relating to the performance of medication aide tasks will receive a separation notice. Please note that the community is required to submit a copy of the separation notice to the Georgia Certified Medication Aide Registry.
* Must be able to bend/stoop, climb, reach above shoulder level, kneel, balance, push, pull, squat, crouch, lift, carry and move up to one hundred (100) pounds.
* Must have training in emergency evacuation procedures, medical and social needs of the residents, resident's rights, abuse and neglect reporting, infection control, medication assistance, dementia, and courses relevant to the job duties.
* Must obtain at least twenty-four (24) hours of continuing education the first year and sixteen (16) hours of continuing education courses each year thereafter.
* Must attend mandatory staff meetings.
* Employee must not be under the influence of alcohol or other substances while engaged in any work-related activity on behalf of the Community.
* Employee must wear a name tag at all times while on the property or engaged in any work- related activity on behalf of the Community.
* Able to work various schedules and shifts as needed.
