Position Summary:
Reporting to the Senior Director, Taxation, the US Tax Manager, will be responsible for the sales tax and corporate tax reporting and compliance of Descartes' US operations. The role requires a tax professional looking to advance their career in industry with the aptitude to learn and challenge themselves in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities:
* Facilitate and manage the preparation and filing of US federal, state and local income tax, and other tax filings (e.g. Form 5471/5472, 1099s, etc.), including preparation of the supporting working papers.
* Manage US sales tax process including reviewing of sales tax returns, administrating sales tax engine (Avalara), reviewing sales tax exemption certificates, researching taxability of Descartes' product offerings, and responding to customer sales tax-related queries.
* Assist with the preparation of the quarterly consolidated income tax provision under US GAAP, including responding to queries from external auditors.
* Assist with the preparation of annual federal and state R&D claims and other ad hoc tax recovery projects.
* Calculate tax instalments and ensure payments are made on a timely basis.
* Prepare various personal property tax returns and business license applications.
* Provide support for tax authority audits including coordinating with professional advisors, as necessary.
* Manage tax integration of newly acquired US entities.
* Maintain tax calendar for various filings, compliance matters, and other tax-related workstreams.
* Stay abreast of legislative and regulatory changes that may impact Descartes US operations.
* Find and implement opportunities for process improvement in company tax procedures.
* Maintain effective working relationships with other team members, departments, and external advisors.
* Manage and train junior tax employees.

Qualifications:
* Bachelor's degree in accounting, Tax and/or Finance.
* Professional accounting designation (CPA) or equivalent foreign designation, or relevant tax qualification, or business designation, with at least 5 years of experience within US Sales Tax and/or Corporate Tax.
* Understanding of tax accounting principles under US GAAP.
* Experience with SAP and Avalara would be an asset.
* Proficient in Microsoft Excel.
* Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
* Ability to work both independently and in a team environment.
* Ability to multi-task, prioritize and work to deadlines in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.

Salary Range: $70,000 to $80, 000 CAD "Compensation information provided is a good faith estimate for this position only. Factors that may be used to determine your actual salary may include your specific skills as well as the years of experience you have. Similar positions located in different geographic regions will not necessarily receive the same compensation."

Location:This is a remote opportunity, open to applicants authorized to work in Canada or the United States. Preference will be given to candidates willing to work Eastern Time zone business hours. #LI- Remote
