Minimum Qualifications
Requires at least a baccalaureate degree in the field. Please contact your Human Resources office for an evaluation of education/experience in lieu of the required minimum qualifications.
Preferred Qualifications
Master's or PhD degree in a relevant area of specialization such as art, art history, or related field. At least two years of museum experience working with and interpreting works of art.
Position Summary
Reporting to the Deputy Director of Curatorial and Academic Affairs and collaborating closely with the Head of Education, the Associate Curator of Academic and Campus Engagement will play a pivotal role in learning and engagement with campus audiences at the Georgia Museum of Art. This position will expand the museum's current work with university audiences by teaching with the museum's collections and exhibitions, organizing and leading multi-disciplinary university class visits, and developing and executing curricular and co-curricular programs for faculty and students. Responsibilities include oversight of the museum-wide student internship program, the Student Nights program, curating the university study gallery, and other programs. This individual will work closely with the curatorial and academic affairs team, as well as others departments throughout the museum, to ensure that these programs align with the vision and mission of the museum.
This is a two-year position with the possibility of renewal.

  • Demonstrated deep commitment to teaching and collaboration across disciplines, with a cross-disciplinary approach to engaging with original works of art.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Detail oriented and highly organized.
  • Excellent collaboration and interpersonal skills, including the ability to exercise good judgment in a variety of situations and act with grace under pressure.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, academic environment.
  • Self-directed with the ability to take initiative and anticipate appropriate actions as needed.
  • Strong computer skills and competency in Microsoft Office Suite, and virtual meeting platforms such as Zoom. TMS experience a plus.
  • Excellent project management skills. Knowledge of Asana a plus.
  • Proven ability to set goals and meet deadlines and organize and prioritize short-term and long-term projects.

Duties/Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with campus partners, teammates in curatorial and academic affairs, and others in the planning and execution of curricular and co-curricular programs, including university class visits, study gallery, and others.
  • Develop and facilitate a range of student-focused events such as Student Nights, internship programs and others.
  • Work with faculty and students on cross-curricular and collaborative programming that expands student experiences at the museum.
  • Manage logistics and budget for onsite and offsite student programs

Duties/Responsibilities
  • Regularly teach or co-teach curriculum-based class visits for UGA groups.
  • In collaboration with faculty members, field curators, and the Head of Education, prepare for university class visits by researching objects and developing customized lessons plans.
  • Develop written interpretive materials and gallery teaching activities that support classroom curriculum, promote multi-modal learning, and cultivate belonging.
  • Support student learning by facilitating connections between curricular themes and objects in the collection and special exhibitions.
  • With the Museum Programs Assistant, manage logistics of class visits to the museum
  • Track visits and content; contribute to reports.

  • With the Head of Education and Curator of Academic and Public Programs, promote the museum as a learning and teaching resource to faculty and students across campus, and increase access to the museum.
  • Give presentations and table events for UGA units, faculty and students to spread awareness about the museum and our academic program offerings.
  • Communicate information about upcoming exhibitions and related academic topics, and share promotional material about museum programs and events with faculty across campus.

  • As a member of GMOA's staff, participate in regular departmental, division, and all-staff meetings.
  • Assist with tracking and preparation of budgets related to academic programs; contribute to grant-writing as needed.
  • Participate in professional development related to the position's goals and priorities, such as through conference participation.
  • Additional duties as assigned.
