Position Summary
The primary responsibility of an Academic Advisor is to meet with assigned students, provide each student with accurate information about the student's intended degree program, make recommendations about course selection for upcoming semesters, generate advising forms detailing these recommendations, and maintain notes about these meetings.

An Advisor I will exhibit a thorough knowledge of the University's rules, regulations, policies, and procedures pertaining to student degree completion; a thorough knowledge of course offerings and requirements of a specific area of academic study; effective problem solving and interpersonal communication skills; the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships; and the ability to interpret policies and procedures and communicate these effectively to students and
faculty.

Departmental advisors are expected to foster student engagement with the academic, social, and professional culture of their department. Advisors are housed within their assigned department in an effort to achieve this critical goal.

All academic advisors will maintain consistent contact with their students, maintain accurate student records, and respond in a timely manner to questions from their students. Regular attendance at weekly staff meetings and annual workshops is mandatory. Franklin College academic advisors should be available to work throughout the summer to advise incoming freshmen and transfers at summer orientation.
