APPOINTMENT TYPE: Full-Time Regular (FTR)

LOCATION: Oak Ridge, TN

SALARY RANGE: $25.78 to $35.87 an hour

PURPOSE:

To provide an array of building equipment operation and maintenance services utilizing a background of considerable experience and well-developed skills in a number of maintenance craft areas. The incumbent will independently perform installation, operation, inspection, testing, maintenance, and repair of institutional building Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC) systems and equipment, fire alarm and sprinkler systems, plumbing and other utility systems. Perform functions as backup to the HVAC and Electrical Mechanics, including sizing, specifying, installing, and troubleshooting electrical and HVAC equipment and systems up to 480V. Utilize carpentry skills to lead small-scale interior buildout and refurbishment projects. Additional duties include infrequent asbestos removal and low-level radiation clean-up work. The employee in this position must have a clear knowledge and understanding of maintenance-related safety regulations and know how to plan and execute work safely.

In this position, the maintenance mechanic is expected to periodically provide off-hours and emergency call-out maintenance services in rotation with other maintenance employees.

Responsibilities
    Inspect and repair various building equipment and operating systems.
  • Install, troubleshoot, and repair electrical equipment.
  • Perform fire alarm, sprinkler system, and safety system inspection, maintenance, and repair.
  • Renovations and small construction and relocation projects (moving furniture, equipment, etc.).
  • Plan and install interior building modifications and utility system improvements.
  • Perform removal and clean-up of low-level radiation.
Qualifications

High school diploma and 5 years of job-related experience. Higher level education above minimum may count for additional experience. An equivalent combination of education and experience requiring similar knowledge, skills, abilities, and performing duties as described may be substituted for the minimum requirements.

  • This position requires at least 5 to 10 years of experience in institutional-level general maintenance duties, including carpentry, HVAC, electrical, fire alarm, and utility system installation, operation, testing, troubleshooting and repair.
  • At least 5 years of experience in a position predominately dedicated to electrical and HVAC equipment installation and maintenance work up to 480V is required.
  • Must have the ability to independently perform installation, operation, inspection, testing, maintenance, and repair of institutional building HVAC systems and equipment, fire alarm and sprinkler systems, plumbing and utility systems.
  • Must have the ability to specify, install, troubleshoot, and safely repair electrical equipment up to 480V.
  • Must be able to skillfully layout and install interior walls and other building modifications, install and finish sheetrock, install floor tile and carpets and work from ladders and other elevated work surfaces.
  • Must be able to perform duties as an asbestos worker and low-level radiation worker.
  • Must be able to operate a forklift and work in a testing designated position which includes random drug screening.

*The candidate's starting salary will be determined upon hire and ORAU will use salary survey data, internal comparators, and the candidate's qualifications to determine salary.
