Description
This position performs routine and complex laboratory procedures under the clinical guidance of the laboratory supervisor. The Med Tech assists technical supervisor with workload recording, inventory control, research and development of new procedures and exercises independent judgment in work performance and interpersonal relations. Essential Functions: * Performs requested laboratory tests and special analysis according to established laboratory and Medical Office policies and procedures. * Receives requisitions for tests to be performed and receives or obtains specimens * Utilizes quality control procedures on a routine basis according to established procedures and takes appropriate action for "Out of Control" results. Records results appropriately. * Prepares and calibrates equipment and reagents. * Performs routine safety checks and preventive maintenance on instruments on a consistent, timely basis to insure optimal operation and minimal downtime. * Performs troubleshooting procedures on equipment, reagents and procedures in an efficient manner that maintains testing schedules. Refers problems beyond his/her scope of ability to Supervisor or Senior Medical Tech. * Communicates with reference lab to confirm results, specimen disposition and to order supplies. * Exercises independent judgement in determining whether test results may be released, repeated or referred for review. Consults with supervisor when necessary. * Assists with workload recording and inventory control. * Prioritizes laboratory testing and other duties appropriately to assure optimal efficiency and timely reporting of laboratory results. * Assumes responsibility for assuring collection of adequate and acceptable samples for analysis. * Participates in Continuing Education and in-service programs. * Participates in department and medical office quality assurance and quality of service activities. * Participates in orientation and training of new employees. * Adheres to safety and quality assurance policies. * Assumes responsibility for the day to day operation of the laboratory in the absence of the Supervisor and/or Senior Medical Tech. * Makes recommendations for improvements to the laboratory operations to the Supervisor or Senior Medical Tech. * Maintain confidentiality of patient medical information. Qualifications
Basic Qualifications: * Bachelor's degree in Medical Technology or equivalent required * ASCP MT certification or equivalent required * Must be able to work independently * Must have a history of punctuality * Must have a history of good attendance * Must be familiar with HIPAA guidelines Preferred Qualifications: * One year of post certification MT experience preferred.
