There are no typical or routine days in this role. By applying engineering processes, you will lead the research, design, analysis, and testing of varied technical challenges. Your activities will also include getting your hands dirty by supporting hardware builds and testing in our onsite, state of the art, test facility.

You may interface with major customers in both Commercial and Military Aerospace as well as Space Industries. This role will push you to ask WHY and explore previous assumptions with the goal of providing our customers and stakeholders with higher value solutions in a dynamic and evolving aerospace market.

What you will be doing...

  • Plans, schedules and coordinates detailed phases of a major project or in a total project system of moderate scope
  • May carry out complex or novel research assignments requiring the development of new or improved techniques and procedures
  • Promotes and implements process improvements company-wide. May write product standard design guidelines
  • Performs work which involves conventional engineering practices, but includes a variety of complex features, such as conflicting design requirements, non-standard materials and difficult coordination requirements
  • Provides direct support of sales and development by sharing information in the form of major/complex proposals and design reviews
  • Independently troubleshoots/analyzes system problems
  • Independently writes and performs complex component tests
  • Dispositions hardware independently
  • Sets technical direction on complex projects to level 1-3 Engineers

Materials and Equipment Used:

  • PC and related equipment

Working Environment / Physical Activities:

  • Work is generally performed in a normal office environment; however, the job may take the member into various areas of the plant where there is possible exposure to noise, chemical solutions, dust and temperatures above 80 degrees F
  • Moderate travel may be required

Qualifications

What We Are Looking For...

  • Effective written and verbal communication skills including presentations, (Customer, internal and management). Writes and communicates critical reports. Leads complex design reviews, internally and Customer. Expert technical writing skills (procedures, reports, etc.)
  • Competent complex problem solving/troubleshooting skills for both components and subsystems
  • Competent in the use of PCs and associated software. Solid knowledge of appropriate WISE applications such as BOM, Item Master, NCR, EC screens and part tracking
  • Promotes a cross-functional project team environment, communicates with customers and leads small teams
  • May participate in setting technical direction/product strategies
  • Provides technical problems-solving guidance to others
  • Working knowledge of standards and the ability to apply complex groupings of standards into designs
  • Ability to quickly learn, interpret and apply new standards
  • Competent use and application of FEA tools; solid use of DFSS tools and methodologies; solid knowledge of Engineering quality systems (PLC, Engineering change, configuration management); solid ability to compute steady state results. Significant contributor to the design of complex products/systems
  • Complete understanding of component functions and testing requirements
  • Understands manufacturing processes, drawings and geometric tolerances as well as shop standards. May direct or lead several Engineers
  • Ability to strategically prioritize based on business needs
  • May have company-recognized expertise
  • May represent Woodward at conferences and industrial events
  • Demonstrates leadership skills; ability to drive results across organizational boundaries
  • BS degree in Engineering required
  • Post-graduate technical degree desired
  • 8 years in related field required, including post-graduate experience

Estimated annual base pay: $102,000-$127,000 (midpoint)

Salary to be determined based on education, knowledge, skills, abilities, as well as internal equity and alignment with market data
