Engineering Interns (Electrical and Mechanical – Multiple, New Positions!)

Nature of Work

The primary function of the Engineering Intern is to participate in the Engineering Department by supporting the development of existing and new products. This person will learn about the new product development and support process, while applying and building their engineering skills. This position is part time (12-16 hrs/wk) during the academic year, and full time (40 hrs/wk) during academic breaks.

  • Design tests for a device or system, given a description of its expected behavior
  • Create and Test prototypes, concepts and products
  • Document a system, module, or test procedure
  • Participate in design reviews
  • Research current technologies and analyze key differences
  • Learn about and use TAPCO products, tools, and software

Knowledge/Skill/Ability

  • Math skills - add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.

Required Experience

  • Must be currently enrolled in a 4-year college or university majoring in an Engineering related program
  • Must have completed the freshman year in the major program of study
  • Must have and maintain a minimum GPA of 2.5 / 4.0 
  • This is an entry-level position, therefore previous experience is not required

Electrical / Electronic Engineering and Computer Science Majors Specifics

  • Setup and run test procedures to verify hardware and software behavior
  • Develop firmware to add functionality or new features to new and current devices
  • Knowledge of basic electrical circuits and schematics
  • Knowledge of C or C++ programming languages
  • Knowledge of electrical test equipment including multimeter, oscilloscope, and adjustable power supply

Mechanical Engineering Major Specifics

  • CAD design and Drawing Creation using SolidWorks and AutoCAD
  • Experience using hand tools and power tools
  • Support and maintain our prototyping lab

The employee is occasionally required to walk; stoop, kneel, crouch and stand; use hands to handle objects, tools, or controls; and to reach with hands and arms. The employee may lift and/or move up to 75 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, distance vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

 

Work Environment

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.  While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles while walking through the warehouse.  The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.  Work hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00am – 5:00pm; however, at times the workload may not require full time or may require overtime Monday through Saturday.  Some flexibility of scheduling may be necessary to accommodate customer’s needs.
