Job Description
Professor of Practice, Managing Director, GSUTV - Log #23-114
 
   The Department of Communication at Georgia State University in Atlanta, GA, invites applications for a Professor of Practice position to begin in May 2023. This Professor of Practice will serve as the Managing Director of GSUTV. We seek media practitioners with production, editing, training, and management expertise to work with this established educational program.

    The Managing Director will coordinate administrative operations and outreach and will be responsible for assuring that programming is in compliance with FCC and GPB requirements. Candidates should have strategic planning ability, strong communication skills with an ability to work effectively with a diverse range of constituencies, programming experience, and knowledge of digital television production operations, methods, facilities, and equipment. Candidates should have extensive experience in media that includes the ability to produce dynamic long form videos, digital shorts, and interstitials. Experience with Adobe Premier Pro is preferred.
  
   Candidates should demonstrate the ability to train students to conceptualize, produce, edit and deliver productions. While formal teaching experience is welcomed, applicants may demonstrate the potential to teach a diverse student population through a background in media training, media-related instructional presentations, or extensive mentorship of media professionals. The Department of Communication at Georgia State University offers undergraduate degrees in Journalism (including multi-media reporting, public relations, and media & society) and Speech Communication, M.A. degrees in Communication (research track) and Digital Media Strategies (professional track), and a doctoral degree in Communication Studies. Professors of Practice teach required and elective courses in the journalism BA program and the MA programs.

   Candidates should have 6 or more years of experience as a media professional and a completed Bachelor’s degree in media production, journalism, or a closely allied discipline at the time of employment. Master’s degree preferred. Applications should include:
