LEWIS COLLEGE OF NURSING AND HEALTH PROFESSIONS
GEORGIA STATE UNIVERSITY

The Department of Physical Therapy in the Lewis College of Nursing and Health Professions at Georgia State University in Atlanta invites applications for a 9-month non-tenured track position at the rank Clinical Assistant Professor for 30 hours per week.

GSU is the largest urban university in the state and is located in the heart of Atlanta within blocks of some of the finest healthcare facilities in the nation. The Department of Physical Therapy is a leader in research and education in the allied health professions. The Department’s mission is “to prepare doctors of physical therapy who are committed to clinical excellence, professional distinction, and the pursuit of scholarly activities that contribute to the body of scientific and clinical knowledge.”

GSU is the first public institution in Georgia to confer the Doctor of Physical Therapy degree, and per year it enrolls three cohorts, each with 44 students, with diverse backgrounds, majors and interests. The Department provides an environment that supports and fosters the development of a focused, productive, and high-quality research program for its ten full-time and two part-time faculty members, and deeply involves students in the discovery process.  Students are provided exceptional learning opportunities, whether on campus or at one of more than 200 affiliated clinical sites within the metro Atlanta area and across the country. Student researchers have the opportunity to present their findings at local, state, and national meetings, contributing to the body of knowledge as well as enhancing their own understanding and scholarship.  The effectiveness of this immersive approach is reflected in a 100% employment rate and, more importantly, successful licensure of graduates over the last three years of 100%.   Teaching, student laboratories and research laboratories in the Department of Physical Therapy are housed in the Parker H. Petit Science Center.  Opened in March 2010, this 50,000 square-foot state of the art facility houses programs in biology, chemistry, nursing, nutrition, public health, Physical Therapy and the Georgia State University Neuroscience Institute.  Additional information about the Department of Physical Therapy can be found at this URL: https://physicaltherapy.gsu.edu/

A successful candidate will possess an entry level Doctor of Physical Therapy qualification, and have a current Physical Therapy license or be eligible for licensure in the State of Georgia and have experience in teaching, research and practice. Board certification in one of the following specialties: Acute Care or Cardio-pulmonary or Neurology Board-Certified Specialist will be preferred. In addition, experience or an interest in teaching foundational courses such as neuroscience to DPT students is strongly desired.
