Summary of Position: The Department of Early Childhood and Elementary Education at Georgia State University invites applications for the position of Department Chair and Professor starting July 2024. Candidates must have an earned doctorate in Early Childhood, Elementary Education, Curriculum and Instruction, or other closely related field.
Qualifications: The successful candidate will lead and enhance the research, education, and service mission through effective communication and collaboration. Preference will be given to candidates currently at the rank of Professor. Tenure may be granted for qualified candidates upon appointment. Candidates should have a demonstrated record in academic leadership and management, including experience in budgeting and resource allocation, academic program assessment, as well as hiring, developing, and supervising faculty and staff. Responsibilities: The successful candidate will:
Report to the Dean of the College of Education and Human Development
Represent and advocate for the interests of students, faculty, and staff to the Dean, the University leadership, and communities of interest
Advance core values of trust, fairness/equity, and accountability.
Manage and allocate department budget and resources
Oversee the growth of the departmental external funding portfolio
Supervise academic program review
Oversee the quality of instruction, credit hour production and class assignment
Evaluate faculty and staff for annual reports, pre- and post-tenure reviews, and promotion and tenure
Facilitate faculty and staff hiring and development
Engage in strategic planning for the department and college
About ECEE: The Department of Early Childhood and Elementary Education (ECEE) is located in the College of Education and Human Development (CEHD) at Georgia State University, one of the nation’s premier urban public research institutions. ECEE is a diverse, vibrant, multi-focused, and interdisciplinary department with faculty comprised of multiple scholarly disciplines with specialists in content areas including reading, math, science, multilingualism/multiliteracies, and social studies.
