Assistant/Associate Professor of Biomechanics (Log #:25-006)

The Department of Kinesiology and Health in the College of Education and Human Development at Georgia State University invites applications for a full-time, 10-month tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant/Associate Professor to begin in the Fall of 2024. This is a full-time academic year position. Candidates specializing in Biomechanics of health sciences, sports, or human performance are strongly encouraged to apply.

The Department of Kinesiology and Health is home to the Exercise Science undergraduate program, one of the most popular majors at Georgia State University. The Kinesiology and Health Department serves over 1000 graduate and undergraduate students annually in Exercise Science, Health and Physical Education, and Sports Administration, with a reputation for excellent teaching in a diverse student body. Faculty have a history of external funding from the National Institutes of Health, U.S. Department of State, U.S. Department of Education, corporations, and various private agencies and organizations, and collaborate with various organizations on and off the university campus. The department supports state-of-the-art research and teaching laboratories in biomechanics, applied physiology, muscle biology, cardiovascular physiology, sports business, and physical education pedagogy.

Qualifications:
Required:
  • An earned Ph.D. in Biomechanics or a closely related discipline from an accredited institution by the start of the position;
  • An ongoing record of scholarly work commensurate with the rank of Assistant/Associate Professor;
  • A rigorous and highly productive line of research with a strong potential for external funding;
  • Excellent teaching experience in Biomechanics or related areas;
Preferred:
  • Research focus related to health sciences, human performance, or sports biomechanics;
  • Ability to collaborate with faculty within and outside the department;
  • A record of external funding for applicants who apply for the Associate Professor position;
  • Postdoctoral training.
Responsibilities:
The faculty member will
  • Develop, pursue, and maintain an externally funded research line;
  • Teach undergraduate and graduate level courses in biomechanics and related areas (2-2 teaching load, teaching summer courses may be available on an annual basis);
  • Mentor and direct graduate student theses and dissertations;
  • Supervise undergraduate student research fellowships or internships;
  • Provide service to the department, college, university, and professions.
