Assistant/Associate Professor

The Department of Early Childhood and Elementary Education in the College of Education & Human Development at Georgia State University, a Research I institution with considerable emphasis on recruiting productive scholars, is seeking a full-time, tenure-track assistant/associate professor with expertise in creative and innovative education.               

Responsibilities: The faculty member is expected to maintain an active portfolio of research, scholarship, teaching and service. Primary scholarly responsibilities include maintaining an active and productive research agenda, including publications of research and scholarly work; participation in professional organizations; and dissemination of research at conferences. Instructional responsibilities include undergraduate teaching; teaching in a graduate program focusing on the creative and innovative education of children and adolescents; and other courses as needed. Additional responsibilities include advising graduate students; serving on department, college and university committees; and engaging in outreach and support of community partners involved in the creative and innovative education of students.

Qualifications:
  • An earned doctorate in an educational field (such as, but not limited to, childhood studies, curriculum and instruction, arts education and human and learning sciences) with an emphasis in creative education, design thinking and/or STEAM
  • A strong background in conceptions of learning through arts-based or innovative practices within informal and formal learning spaces
  • Demonstrated research and instructional efforts focused on innovation and creativity reflective of global and technological trends in education
  • A strong background in working with community organizations and partners (e.g., maker spaces, arts institutions, museums, schools or after-school programs)
  • Experience working with community organizations and partners in funded programming and research
  • Strength as an educator working in school-based and/or out-of-school contexts

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience with external grants
