Job Description
Georgia State University invites applications for a non-tenure-track faculty position in the Andrew Young School of Policy Studies to start in fall 2023. The primary appointment will be to the Georgia Health Policy Center (GHPC) to support and grow a research agenda in applied data science and statistics at the intersections of health policy, health services research, and public health. We seek faculty candidates with expertise in large-scale and comprehensive analytic techniques to answer real-world public policy and public health-related research questions using  data from a variety of sources. The candidate should have expertise in working with data from administrative sources, including insurance-based claims databases and electronic healthcare/medical records, in addition to other sources. The candidate should possess a strong track record of publishing in peer-reviewed outlets and demonstrate the ability to secure extramural funding to build upon and grow the ongoing  research at GHPC. Additionally, the candidate will be responsible for leading the implementation of the data infrastructure components of GHPC’s strategic plan for research which includes securing and making accessible national and state-level health datasets aligned with the mission of GHPC and the larger School and University research community. This is a 12-month research faculty appointment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The successful candidate will possess the necessary skills to grow a research agenda in public policy and public health that leverages existing and cutting-edge techniques from applied data science and statistics. The ideal candidate will be able to work with individuals across a variety of disciplines and be capable of working with existing research staff at GHPC to grow analytic capacities and practices across existing portfolios of work. Responsibilities will include contributing to ongoing research and capacity-building projects, developing or continuing a fundable research program, providing advisement and mentoring to graduate students, and participating in service activities within the Center, the School, the institution, and professional-based communities as appropriate.

Qualifications
Candidates must have a doctorate degree from an accredited institution in a relevant discipline such as public policy, health services research, health policy, public health, or statistics. Candidates with real-world experiences in applying data science and statistical methods, who also have advanced analytics training are encouraged to apply; preference will be given to applicants with a rich track record of working with large and complex data using open-source programs and methods. While primarily based in the Georgia Health Policy Center, a successful candidate will preferably hold a non-tenure track faculty appointment in one of the academic
disciplines of AYS: Criminal Justice, Economics, Public Management and Policy, Social Work, or Urban Studies.

GHPC is the largest research center within the Andrew Young School of Policy Studies. Established in 1995, GHPC provides evidence-based research, program development, policy guidance, and technical assistance locally, statewide, and nationally to improve health at the community level. Projects focus on community and public health, public and private health insurance coverage, long-term care, child health, and community health systems development, among others. GHPC is active in all 50 states and more than 200 communities nationwide and manages more than 9 million in grants and sponsored research annually.
