Job Description

Position Summary
Under the direction of the radiologic technologist, Technical Assistants will demonstrate the ability to be organized, detail-oriented, and also apply critical thinking skills to multitask and prioritize using proper time management skills. Excellent verbal and written communication skills are preferred. Additionally, Technical Assistants should be able to work well independently but also as part of a team. A Technical Assistant is responsible for performing a variety of technical procedures with minimal supervision. A Technical Assistant handles care for patients by transporting them to procedures, answering questions, and preparing and performing radiologic imaging procedures. The Technical Assistant also communicates with other members of the health care team to coordinate patient care.

Job Responsibilities

* Positions patient and equipment to best demonstrate the anatomical area of interest while ensuring and respecting the patient's physical abilities and comfort level.

* Properly tracks procedures utilizing Radiology information system (EPIC) and verify images on the PACs system (Sectra)

* Obtains and documents appropriate history from patient or representative and consults with the radiologist when necessary. Reviews procedure versus clinical history and documents information.

* Maintain the privacy and treat all patients and other customers with courtesy, dignity, and respect. Operate and train on all digital and computerized equipment, report any equipment malfunctions.

* Applies principles of ALARA safety and utilize collimation to minimize radiation exposure to patients, self, and others.

* Prioritize STAT, routine and trauma exams by responding appropriately to requested calls.

* Follow departmental radiation protection protocols and wear radiation badges at all times.

* Transport patients and prepares for radiographic imaging; providing the necessary instructions to obtain the radiographs, gain cooperation and reduce patient's anxiety.

* Complete additional tasks related to patient care in the X-ray department with other members of the health care team to coordinate patient care.

Qualifications

* High school diploma or GED required.

* Two years college level coursework in related field.

* Less than one (1) year job related experience required.

* CPR Certification required for Imaging Services.

* Basic Life Support (BLS)

* Ability to multitask and prioritize using good time management skills.
