HDR is looking for a Transit EIT to join our North Carolina Transportation Business Group to manage and support the design and/or planning of public transportation projects. The individual in this position will lead and support multi-disciplinary transit projects that may include Bus, Bus Rapid Transit, Streetcar, or transit support facilities. The primary responsibilities include the project management, support, and design oversight of transit service, vehicle and transit maintenance facilities, transit stations and centers, and bus terminals. The candidate is expected to be knowledgeable of the transit industry, client programs, and experience managing multi-disciplinary project deliverables.

In the role of Transit EIT, we'll count on you to:

  • Assist the Senior Engineer with site studies, site designs, contract documentation preparation and graphic presentation
  • Perform overall site layout, grading, utility layout and drainage
  • Perform routine engineering assignments requiring application of standard techniques and procedures
  • Complete projects with clear, specified objectives and limited variables
  • Perform administrative duties associated with project management for civil/site projects
  • Work independently on small projects, or assist more-senior engineers on larger projects
  • Perform other duties as needed
  • Assist clients in the day-to-day project management activities of design, funding, construction and project control related to bus rapid transit projects; responsible for general project administration including Document Controls, Procurement, DBE/ADA Civil Rights, Project Controls and Risk Management.
  • Ability to plan, organize, and manage capital project scopes, schedules, and budgets
  • Participate in reviews and concept/design meetings with various clients and architects
  • Conduct work sessions for design development
  • Independently coordinate the work of the site and structural design teams through the design development and contract document phases of a project.
  • Establish meetings and participate in reviews with various groups for code and agency compliance.
  • Implement QA/QC procedures
  • Other design tasks as assigned
Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil or Structural Engineering or related field
  • Engineer in Training (EIT) certificate or ability to obtain within 6 months. Candidates hired without their EIT will have the title of Transit Designer and expected to obtain their EIT certification for career progression.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office, Excel and Word, AutoCAD, MicroStation a plus
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • An attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee-owned culture is a must
  • Experience in cost control, scheduling and risk management
  • Competence in Microsoft Word, Excel and Project
  • Strong organizational and time management skills with ability to effectively work on multiple projects simultaneously
  • Civil engineering, architectural design and systems design and construction;
  • Project budgets, estimating and related documents;
  • Local, regional, state, and federal agencies, groups and organizations involved in transit planning and development;
  • National, State and Local Laws, codes, regulations, and legal requirements related to public transportation;

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in cost control, scheduling and risk management
  • Competence in Microsoft Word, Excel and Project
  • Strong organizational and time management skills with ability to effectively work on multiple projects simultaneously

  • National, State and Local Laws, codes, regulations, and legal requirements related to public transportation;
  • Computer skills using Microsoft Office, ArcGIS, MicroStation, AutoCAD, Power Inroads#LI-HO1
  • Experience with designing transit facilities such as bus rapid transit, transit stations, light rail, and related facilities.
  • Experience with state departments of transportation and the federal transit administration
  • FTA New Starts/Capital Investment Grant Programs Management principles and practices;
  • Valid North Carolina Driver's License or the ability to obtain one.
  • Preference given to local candidates.
