Responsibilities:

  • Determines scope, budget, and schedule for each task. Performs design and/or assigns tasks to team members and monitors for conformance to plan.
  • Plan, schedule, conduct, or coordinate electrical engineering, instrumentation, and controls work. Prepare engineering reports, plans, and specifications for a variety of projects.
  • Prepare and review plans and technical specifications, contract documents, and estimates. Participate in contract bidding and administration.
  • Support and observe the design and ongoing progress of a project. Communicate and interact with project team members, client representatives, review agencies, and others as appropriate to the project.
  • Provide leadership, assign electrical design job functions to designated engineers and designers, and supervise their efforts in completing the project on time and within budget.
  • Collaborate in solving various complex engineering problems (e.g., conflicting design requirements, unsuitability of conventional materials, difficult coordination requirements).
  • Design electrical components and systems for industrial facilities.
  • Research codes and apply knowledge of code requirements and standards to designs.
  • Determine, analyze, and interpret clients' needs and requirements.
  • Identify all project inputs needed to proceed efficiently on assigned tasks.
  • Produce contract documents, including drawings and specifications, review designs, proposals, shop drawings, and contractor comments for sound electrical engineering practice and conformance with established safety and design criteria.
  • Perform calculations and complete layouts and arrangements.
  • Prepare project cost and schedule estimates.
  • Visit construction sites to observe existing conditions to obtain design information and identify solutions to problems that may arise during construction.
  • Conduct quality control and assurance program inspections and report findings and recommendations.
  • Provide technical assistance when problems are encountered before, during, and after construction.
  • Collaborate with others to identify, define, and solve design issues.
  • Review preliminary and final electrical design with other disciplines for function, clearances, coordination, and final design selection.
  • Review design deliverables for constructability. Checks shop drawings for compliance with design documents and coordinates with other disciplines. Answers RFIs from contractors during construction. Performs construction inspections and develops final punch list.
  • Write commissioning procedures.
  • Assist in starting and commissioning communication, security, instrumentation, and controls projects.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • B.S. or M.S. in Electrical Engineering
  • Minimum of 15 years of electrical design experience serving manufacturing and industrial clients
  • P.E. license with education experience necessary to obtain licensure in other states by reciprocity
  • Experience in low and medium-voltage electrical design and instrumentation and controls for water and wastewater infrastructure including power distribution systems, one-line diagrams, lighting plans, control schematics and development, instrumentations design, and SCADA design.
  • Knowledge of large power transformers, power generation, transmission, operation, and maintenance of power system distribution systems (110vac to 138kvac), harmonic analysis, cable and buss capacity analysis, and load flow analysis is required.
  • Experience in electrical design for facility and infrastructure projects. Experience shall include the design of power, lighting, grounding and lightning protection, alarm systems, control systems for building equipment, communications, access controls, and security systems.
  • Strong working knowledge of national safety electrical codes and standards
  • Ability to multi-task and manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Strong team player that effectively coordinates with other team members throughout the design.
  • Communicates effectively. Skilled in both verbal and written communication. The position will have direct client contact.
  • Previous design and detailing experience using REVIT, and AutoCAD is preferred.
  • Experience with lighting calculation software such as AGI-32, ElumTools, and/or Visual is preferred.
  • Experience with power system analysis software such as SKM Powertools, or ETAP is preferred.
  • LEED accreditation is preferred.
