Job/Internship Description

Mott MacDonaldis seeking a CEI intern for highway and bridge inspection projects. This position will be in our Raleigh, NC office.

From the moment you join us, you'll be immersed in what it's like to be an engineer at Mott MacDonald. You'll work with a team of exceptional engineers and scientists who have a passion for consultant engineering. From your first week, you'll gain exposure to project work and start honing the skills you've been studying, to begin your career in the profession.

Duties will include but may not be limited to:

  • Traveling to various project sites to conduct inspection and testing duties
  • Following standard procedures and specifications for documentation and inspection of construction activities
  • Reading, interpreting, and ensuring compliance with construction plans, specifications, and contracts
  • Daily calculating, reporting, documenting, and communicating verbally and in writing
  • Computing quantities for items such as concrete, asphalt, steel, earthwork, drainage structures, and traffic control devices
  • Operating company vehicle, computer, and testing equipment
  • Reporting construction progress and issues with engineers, contractors, utilities, and government officials to Senior Field and Administrative personnel
  • Documenting field changes and as-built plans
  • Documenting daily diaries and material test reports
  • Working in an office or outdoor environment in varying weather conditions as required by the project type

To be considered for this internship position, you will currently be working towards a bachelor's or master's degree in civil engineering. You should be able to demonstrate your interest in your chosen sector through relevant experiences, such as studying relevant modules or previous work experience. You'll also have:

  • A methodical approach to problem-solving
  • Prior relevant internships, co-ops, or practical work experience preferred
  • An ability to use your initiative to undertake tasks efficiently and independently
  • Adept verbal communication skills, which allow you to confidently liaise with clients and team members
  • Excellent written communication and attention to detail and ability to demonstrate accurate technical drawings and write accurate reports
