We strongly encourage applicants whose values align with our institutional values, as outlined in our Strategic Plan. These values include academic excellence, diversity of thought and experience, inquiry and innovation, collaboration and community, and ethical behavior and stewardship. Georgia Tech has policies to promote a healthy work-life balance and is aware that attracting faculty may require meeting the needs of two careers.

About Georgia Tech

Georgia Tech is a top-ranked public research university situated in the heart of Atlanta, a diverse and vibrant city with numerous economic and cultural strengths. The Institute serves more than 45,000 students through top-ranked undergraduate, graduate, and executive programs in engineering, computing, science, business, design, and liberal arts. Georgia Tech's faculty attracted more than $1.4 billion in research awards this past year in fields ranging from biomedical technology to artificial intelligence, energy, sustainability, semiconductors, neuroscience, and national security. Georgia Tech ranks among the nation's top 20 universities for research and development spending and No. 1 among institutions without a medical school.

Georgia Tech's Mission and Values

Georgia Tech's mission is to develop leaders who advance technology and improve the human condition. The Institute has nine key values that are foundational to everything we do:

1. Students are our top priority.

2. We strive for excellence.

About the EPICenter at Georgia Institute of Technology

EPICenter was established to address the need for sustaining progress toward low cost, reliable, low carbon energy into the coming decades. It is an affiliated center, with its own $20M endowment, of the Strategic Energy Institute at Georgia Tech, which serves as a 'systems integrator' for the 300+ faculty working in energy (see energy.gatech.edu). Georgia Tech has broad and deep expertise across the whole energy value chain, including power generation, renewables, electric grid, transportation, buildings, cybersecurity, smart cities, energy storage, energy geopolitics, energy economics, and energy policy, to name a few.

The center was established to deploy Georgia Tech's deep strengths in energy technology, policy, and economics toward regional energy issues with national and international impact, and to guide stakeholders in thinking through complex, coupled social and technological energy issues. The center can be thought of as part 'think tank', part 'extension service', and part 'applied research institute'. Potential center activities include, but are not limited to:

  • Producing timely, rigorous studies that address southeastern perspectives/roles on global, national and regional energy issues and communicating this information to the public;
  • Serve as a convening organization and a nonpartisan facilitator for academic, business and nongovernmental stakeholders;
  • Provide opportunities for information exchange among students, faculty and visiting scholars;
  • Support education and workforce development, facilitating collaboration and public-private partnerships within the region, the nation, and with other relevant stakeholders.
  • EPICenter relies on funds from its $20M endowment, annual gifts, and extramural grants to execute its mission, but shares support staff with SEI.

Job Summary

The Georgia Institute of Technology (Georgia Tech) seeks to fill the Director position (Research Faculty rank determined by qualifications and experience) for its Energy, Policy, and Innovation Center EPICenter (see energy.gatech.edu/epicenter-gt). Candidates seeking a Tenure-Track appointment can find the parallel announcement and application process using the below link;
