We are seeking a Mechanical Designer with experience in HVAC, plumbing and Fire Protection design in the Commercial, , Education, Aviation, and Healthcare industries.

Responsibilities

The following duties are typical of the position but are not all encompassing. Responsibilities include those required to deliver quality service on schedule and within budget in a team environment. This position is a hybrid model that will require commuting to our Atlanta, GA office 3 days a week.

    Applies intensive and diversified knowledge of engineering principles and practices for building systems design for HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection systems design in the Commercial, Healthcare, and Education industries.
  • Interprets, organizes, executes, and coordinates assignments with the overall responsibility for budget and schedule adherence, quality control and inter-discipline coordination.
  • Responsible for creating, influencing, and finalizing designs involving air and hydronic HVAC systems including but not limited to central energy plants/systems, pumps and distribution piping, air handling equipment and ductwork systems, and possibly other mechanical building systems.
  • Responsible for creating, influencing, and finalizing designs involving plumbing systems including but not limited to domestic cold and hot water systems, sanitary and vent systems, natural gas systems, compressed air systems, and possibly other plumbing building systems.
  • Responsible for creating, influencing, and finalizing designs involving fire protection systems including but not limited to sprinkler systems (wet and dry type), and clean agent systems.
  • Will work with the design team, Engineers, Project Managers, Clients, and other stakeholders on specific assigned objectives, complex features, and aid in deriving possible solutions to unusual problems.
  • Coordinates with the project engineer for design guidance as required.
  • Produces contract documents including plans and specifications.
  • Coordinate needs, designs, and develops an understanding with other design disciplines (Civil, Architectural, Structural, Electrical, etc.) for design package needs.
  • Serves as a job captain on single discipline projects.
  • May devise new approaches and solutions to problems encountered and communicate them to the team.
  • Perform field verifications / site walks to identify, verify, resolve, and incorporate solutions into design packages. May troubleshoot design problems in the field during construction.
  • Completes design work on engineering/architectural projects ranging from small to large scope.
  • Performs construction site visits for status reports and punch list reports.
  • Reviews project construction submittals for conformance with the contract documents.
  • May represent the firm in meetings and conferences to resolve important questions and to plan and coordinate a project.
  • Travel required. Valid driver's license required.
Qualifications
  • Experience with the design and specification of various types of HVAC systems.
  • Experience using Carrier HAP for building load analysis is preferred.
  • Experience with domestic cold and hot water, sanitary and vent, design.
  • Experience with compressed air design.
  • Experience with medical gas design.
  • Certified Plumbing Designer preferred
  • Experience with Fire Protection design (wet, dry, clean agent, etc.).
  • Proficiency in REVIT required.
  • Experience working with AutoCAD is required. Experience with Navisworks, PIPE-FLO or similar hydraulic modeling software is a plus.
  • Experience with Autodesk Construction Cloud (ACC) preferred.
  • Working knowledge of International Building Codes, ASHRAE Standards, ASPE Standards, and NFPA Standards.
  • Ten (10) or more years' experience with former employer(s).
  • Salary Range: $80,000-$100,000/year depending on location, education, experience, and any certifications that are directly related to the position.
