Job Description

Purolite, an Ecolab company, the world leader in resin-based separation, purification and extraction technology, is seeking an Electrician to work at our Philadelphia, PA manufacturing plant.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Requirements:

Computer literate with strong writing skills. Has the ability to initiate tasks and work in an independent manner. Must be able to communicate with visitors, professional and plant personnel. Ability to perform work in confined spaces including but not limited to tanks and pits. Ability to operate aerial lift equipment, scissor lift and high reach

Responsibilities and Authority

  • Trouble shoots to determine root cause of equipment failure and determines corrective action
  • Executes preventive maintenance work as scheduled in order to maximize overall equipment efficiency
  • Operates and performs maintenance on all key plant utilities, including but not limited to boilers, air compressors, air conditioners, scrubbers and DI water systems
  • Ensures that appropriate safety measures are in place before starting any tasks that require special work conditions, such as tank entry (Confined Space Entry), lock out and tag out
  • Assembles, installs, tests and maintains electrical or electronic wiring, equipment and fixtures using power and hand tools
  • Inspects electrical systems, equipment and components to identify hazards, defects and completes corrective action to ensure compliance with codes
  • Tests electrical systems and continuity of circuits in electrical wiring, equipment and fixtures using devises such as ohmmeters and voltmeters to ensure safety of the system
  • Repairs and/or rebuilds manual and actuated valves
  • Plans layout and installation of electrical wiring, equipment and fixtures based on job specifications and local codes
  • Assists mechanics as needed when electrical work load permits
  • Informs management regarding potential hazards and recommends corrective action
  • There are no supervisory responsibilities associated with this position.
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Educational Requirements:

High school graduate or the equivalent, or a degree from an accredited two-year electrical trade or technical school.

Experience Requirements:

Minimum five years industrial electrical maintenance or technical design work, including five years of process control instrumentation installation, repairs, and applications. Experience with instrumentation, controls and calibration required.

Contacts and Relationships:

Interfaces with other department personnel in the corporate office, administration and plant locations as necessary. Requires good communication, interpersonal skills and interacts well with external customers, visitors, employees and management in other departments

Working Conditions:

Position operates in an environment in which there may be temperature extremes and exposure to weather, excessive noise and vibrations, moving mechanical parts, electric shock, hazardous chemicals, gases, odors, hot liquids or equipment. May work in high, low or confined spaces.

Physical Demands:

Physical requirements: Requires ability to sit and/or stand for extended periods of time, up to and including twelve hours; walk, bend, reach, grasp, handle, push, pull, twist, kneel, squat, carry and lift uneven loads. Lift floor to waist, lift waist level and above, including overhead, up to and including 60 lbs. Contact stress on body from tools, machines or equipment. Climb step stools, stairs, ladders and scaffolds. Ability to push drums on and off of pallets potentially up to and including 500 lbs.

Visual requirements: Requires ability to use tools, machinery or lab equipment, including viewing computer screens, write and review documentation. Close visual acuity in order to perform mechanical or skilled trade tasks; inspect parts and machinery; fabricate or assemble parts. Ability to operate light and heavy equipment, motor vehicles.

Close visual acuity in order to read small print, analyze data, transcribe, determine the accuracy, neatness or thoroughness of assigned work or work area.

Hearing requirements: Talk and/or hear normal audible sounds including the spoken word and sounds over the telephone. Understand and convey spoken instructions accurately, softly, loudly or quickly, frequently in a noisy environment.

Mental requirements: Ability to comprehend complex information or instructions, interpret and convey information in a written or oral format.

Emotional demands: Ability and willingness to deal with high stress fast paced situations and make accurate and quick decisions.

Equipment use: Extensive computer use, frequent use of lab equipment, forklift, and other machinery and tools
