Requires technical knowledge in the field acquired through an apprenticeship, a 2-year degree, or professional certificate. Please contact your Human Resources office for an evaluation of education/experience in lieu of the required minimum qualifications.

Position Summary
The Relationship and Sexual Violence Prevention (RSVP) and Advocacy program is located within the Health Promotion Department of the University Health Center. The RSVP program operates a hotline and advocacy program 24 hours/day and 7 days/week. The RSVP On-Call Advocate provides advocacy services to UGA student survivors of interpersonal violence after University business hours, on weekends and during holidays. The RSVP On-Call Advocate provides in-person support for a survivor who presents to a local hospital emergency department, UGA Health Center Urgent Care Clinic or local police agency. Other services include accompaniment to forensic evidence collection examination, support during reporting and investigation, and assistance with emergency housing relocation.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills, as well as written and verbal communication.
  • Understanding of differences including, but not limited to, culture, gender identity, and sexual orientation.
  • Willing to work as part of a team and within the guidelines, policies, and practices of the University Health Center.
  • Ability to remain objective and support decisions of the survivor.
  • Ability to be flexible and adaptable during crisis to meet the needs of the survivor.
  • Prior history providing counseling and/or survivor advocacy services.
  • Demonstrated understanding of the impact of trauma.
  • Familiarity of working with college-aged population.
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain composure and ability to multi-task during crisis

Duties/Responsibilities

Duties/Responsibilities
Advocacy:
  • Provide advocacy services for survivor including crisis intervention, in-person support, accompaniment to forensic evidence collection exam, medical care services, police reporting, and assistance with emergency housing accommodations.
  • Assess survivor for safety concerns and seek immediate assistance to promote safety of survivor when needed.
  • During shift, answer all calls coming in through designated cell phone.
  • Keep cell phone charged and on your person at all times during shift.
  • Maintain reliable transportation during shift to be able to meet survivor and travel to several locations throughout Athens-Clarke County if needed.
  • Remain within 30-mile radius of Athens-Clarke County while on shift.
  • Establish rapport and level of comfort with survivor in crisis.
  • Provide consistent support and presence throughout work with survivor during medical care, forensic evidence collection exam, and reporting to police agency.
  • Serve as a support and resource for secondary survivors (friends, family members) who may also accompany survivor.
  • Provide additional advocacy information on academic assistance, counseling options, reporting options, referral to RSVP Advocate for continued services and information on follow-up medical needs (such as STI testing).

Duties/Responsibilities
Administrative:
  • Document contact with survivors immediately following advocacy services and report to Assistant Director of Health Promotion and RSVP.
  • Consult with Assistant Director of Health Promotion and RSVP or Director of Health Promotion and The Fontaine Center during policy and procedure questions.
  • Submit record of hours to Assistant Director of Health Promotion and RSVP for University Health Center record keeping and visit tracking.
