About the Department
The Department of Educational Policy Studies, located in the College of Education and Human Development, offers graduate degrees and certificates. The department has a strong reputation for excellent teaching, outstanding research and scholarly productivity, and a diverse student body. There are twenty-four tenured/tenure-track faculty and clinical faculty in the department. Faculty expertise spans research methodologies, critical approaches to educational theory and practice, educational leadership, and socio-cultural investigations across a wide spectrum of disciplinary and inter-disciplinary fields of study. Faculty and students collaborate with the Alonzo A. Crim Center for Urban Educational Excellence, the Urban Studies Institute at Georgia State University, the Urban Child Study Center, and the Center for Evaluation and Research Services, among other centers. The Educational Leadership Unit has numerous programs including M.Ed., Ed.S., Ed.D., Ph.D. and multiple certification programs. The Principals Center is also an integral part of the Educational Leadership Unit. The Principals Center provides professional development for aspiring, new, and veteran school leaders. The Center for Urban School Leadership (USL) is also hosted by the Educational Leadership Unit at GSU. USL aims to curate and disseminate research and resources related to urban school leadership.
Position Description
This position will support leadership candidates who are admitted into the Educational Leadership program via the PROPEL Project leadership residency program. The PROPEL Project (Partnership for Residency Opportunities for Paraprofessionals, Educators, and Leaders Project) is a Teacher Quality Partnership grant sponsored by the US Department of Education. The purpose of the PROPEL Project is to increase the number of highly qualified leaders and teachers in high need content areas who are committed to rural and urban schools and who are equipped with knowledge that contribute to their long-term retention in the educational field for their entire career. The Clinical Assistant Professor position will be contingent upon continued funding of the grant by the sponsor. The position will end when the project closes in September 2028.

This person will be expected to advise and mentor graduate students, work with diverse student populations, model instructional technology use, provide service to the university and profession, and communicate effectively with our educational partners.

While this position is housed in the Department of Educational Policy Studies (EPS), this role is supported by a USDOE Teaching Quality Partnership Grant called the PROPEL Project, so duties for this position will align with goals of the project as well as the needs of the EPS department. The responsibilities for this position include, but may not be limited to:

* Teach up to four courses each semester (4/4 teaching load) which will include practicum supervision/coaching (courses occur during the day, evening, and on Saturdays and may include face-to-face, hybrid, or online instruction);
* Support and participate in professional learning communities for current students and/or alumni;
* Engage in recruitment, induction, and dissemination efforts related to PROPEL Project goals;
* Collaborate with PROPEL project P-12 and IHE partners and stakeholders for recruitment, program development and professional learning opportunities;
* Participate in PROPEL Project team meetings and events (both in person and virtual);
* Help support Tier 1 and Tier 2 leadership certification programs;
* Serve as a university coach to leadership students;
* Develop program and course content;
* Support P-12 mentors;
* Support our partner's K-12 leadership pipeline.
Required Experience
Required Education
The successful applicant will have an earned doctorate in educational leadership, educational administration, or a related / supporting area in education relevant to the Educational Leadership Unit.
Preferred Qualifications/Experience
It is strongly recommended that the applicant have previous experience as a building or system level leader in P-12 education and the ability to articulate leadership certification requirements. The ideal candidate should be interested in working closely with educational leadership graduate students and supervising them throughout their programs of study.
