Georgia-Pacific's Packaging & Cellulose (P&C) segment is seeking a Data Governance Technical Lead to support our businesses. A critical role within the segment's data governance capability, the candidate will help accelerate data management improvements by developing a deep understanding of business processes and supporting critical data and the standard of care required to ensure data is of high quality for transactional and analytical use cases. Position will report to the segment Director of Data Governance.

Essential to success in this role is the ability to build strong partnerships with key business and technology stakeholders, lead matrixed teams through the completion of data management objectives, improve the segment's data literacy, and assure that data quality standards are maintained. The ideal candidate will have data governance/management experience, solid data querying and analysis skills, strong communication skills, a keen business acumen, and the ability to leverage these competencies to provide stewardship and oversight of key institutional data.

Location: This role is based in Atlanta, GA, with a hybrid work schedule that will include multiple days of weekly commuting to GP Center, our downtown headquarters building. Relocation is provided.


What You Will Do

  • Develop a comprehensive understanding of supported businesses
  • Help establish and maintain data-related policies, processes, standards and frameworks
  • Facilitate collaboration and lead project conversations regarding data-change impact analysis to mitigate adverse business process impacts
  • Identify master and reference data opportunities to further advance P&C's data management goals
  • Perform root cause analysis for and drive the resolution of complex data quality issues
  • Establish preventative and detective data quality controls, both technical and operational
  • Capture metadata and business rule requirements for business-critical data and metrics
  • Profile data using business rules to establish data quality insights and ongoing data quality metrics
  • Provide data management guidance to business teams, supporting and enhancing data requirements for their functional processes

Who You Are (Basic Qualifications)

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Data Analytics, Management Information Systems, Data Engineering, or similar field
  • 3+ years of data management experience (e.g. master data management)
  • Technical proficiency in accessing and querying databases (using SQL and/or other database query languages)
  • Experience designing and developing complex data conversion and extract/transform/load (ETL) processes
  • Demonstrated understanding of core data management and governance principles
  • Experience simplifying unfamiliar data concepts and communicating them to stakeholders/business leadership
  • Experience managing cross-functional projects
  • Advanced skills using Microsoft Excel (PivotTables/PowerPivot, linking external data sources)

What Will Put You Ahead

  • Experience with the Infor M3 ERP system
  • Experience in managing data in a multi-tenant cloud environment
  • Data modeling and data architecture experience
  • 2+ years of experience leading and influencing for data management programs
  • 2+ years of experience with data profiling tools (e.g. Talend, SAS Viya) and data profiling techniques
  • Experience working for a large, multinational manufacturer (especially pulp and paper manufacturing)
  • Advanced skills in project management methodologies and tools such as Microsoft Visio & Project
  • Exposure to professional organizations such as DAMA, EDM Council, Data Governance Institute or Data Governance Professionals Organization
