About the School of Biological Sciences

The mission of the School of Biological Sciences is to conduct exceptional research at the leading edge of biological sciences and to provide high quality, innovative education for undergraduate and graduate students. Job Summary

The Data Analyst Specialist role is responsible for collecting, managing, analyzing, interpreting, and reporting unit-related data for the assigned departments. The position will require technical expertise in data quality and integrity processes, data analysis (including descriptive and predictive analytics), data visualization (e.g., interactive dashboards), and data storytelling (narrative communication skills). Data outcomes should help to inform the unit's colleagues and Institute constituents to make enhanced data-driven decisions and continuously improve programs and services. Proficiency in disaggregating data to support the identification of and amelioration of educational equity gaps, health disparities, and other differentiated student outcomes based on student attributes such as gender, race/ethnicity, disability, and others is essential. Job Summary
Primary duties will include work on genomics and transcriptomics projects, DNA assembly, annotation, and analysis, maintenance of the RNA-seq pipeline, and data analysis/figure creation. Secondary duties will include supporting grad student and post-doc research (installing, updating, and upkeep of bioinformatics programs and packages), and general computational support. As time permits, additional work may involve development of a GUI which accomplishes RNA-seq mapping.


Responsibilities

Job Duty 1 -
Conduct and maintain an inventory of all unit's strategic/assessment plans, data collection methods, research, and business-related initiatives

Job Duty 2 -
Collaborate with the departments on the analysis of student engagement and success data. Facilitate the use of data to inform decision-making, conduct analyses, and develop dashboards and reports utilizing a variety of data management platforms

Job Duty 3 -
Prepare data visualizations, reports including charts, graphs, schedules, etc. that effectively present evidence of positive division impact. The data will serve to inform and guide staff in support of our commitment to continuous quality improvement

Job Duty 4 -
Manage Planning Database for Strategic/Assessment plans & End-of-Year Planning/Reports including content upload, report generation & distribution, and update users and units

Job Duty 5 -
Perform other job-related duties as assigned

Responsibilities

Assist with genomic assembly and analysis

* Carryout basic maintenance of the RNA-seq mapping pipeline

* Provide assistance with grad student and post-doc research through data analysis/figure creation

* Increasing accessibility of bioinformatics programs/pipelines

* Management of the lab server

* Troubleshoot programs and packages

* Work with programing languages such as R, Bash, and python

* Perform other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications

Educational Requirements
Bachelor's Degree in Data Analytics, Research Methodology, Mathematics or related field or equivalent combination of education and experience

Required Experience
One to two years of job-related experience

Preferred Certifications, Licenses or Permits: Student Success Analytics, SAS, Excel, certifications, or other data-related skills

Preferred Experience
Knowledge of college student development theory. Application of specialized skills within a university or government agency environment

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

SKILLS
Proficient in using Excel, Tableau, Qualtrics, SPSS, Pyramid, Power BI, etc.
Familiarity with applicable Institute, state, and federal laws and regulations regarding data storage, preservation, and security; the protection of human subject data, and adherence to Ethical Institute standards. Demonstrated working knowledge of statistical software. This job requires knowledge of data analysis, including the nature of the data to be analyzed, the relation of the data to the GT population, and the ability to employ predictive analytics to anticipate future trends and/or needs.
