Job Summary

Supports Sales & Operations Leadership through process standardization, updating best practices, and maintaining adherence to compliance and safety guidelines at designated Tool & Safety locations. Manages personnel and procedures for quality, efficacy, and alignment with policy. Responsible for obtaining optimum efficiency, economy of operations, and maximization of profits from these activities by performing the following duties.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Provide oversight of the company's mobile testing and test lab operations to ensure processes are performed and documented in accordance with established procedures and ASTM and ANSI standards.
  • Develop and maintain testing procedures for all material and equipment tested based on current ASTM and ANSI standards.
  • Develop and implement training procedures for testing technicians, ensuring they comply with current ASTM and ANSI standards and company safety policies.
  • Develop knowledge of Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) requirements and company Motor Vehicle Safety policies for commercial vehicle operation.
  • Develop knowledge of test lab procedures to allow for effective oversight of test lab operations.
  • Learn technical features of test lab equipment to discern the most efficient utilization of equipment and facilities.
  • Develop knowledge of criteria required for test lab accreditation by the Association of North American Independent Laboratories (NAIL).
  • Document the buildout of mobile testing units trailers (MTU's) to ensure standardization of set-up and materials.
  • Ensure timely and effective maintenance and repair of all Irby equipment including owned and leased assets.
  • Manage related specialty businesses as assigned to the Tool & Safety segment by leadership (I.e. flame resistant/retardant clothing)
  • Interact regularly with customers and vendors to drive customer service and achieve sales goals through addressing, mediating, and resolving customer concerns, complaints, and issues.
  • Responsible for initial and ongoing training and qualifications of all directly and indirectly reporting employees.
  • Conduct performance evaluations and address branch personnel issues.
  • Interview and hire applicants for operational Tool and Safety positions.
  • Manage branch inventory status as necessary, including daily reconciliation of discrepancies and adjustments, and cycle counting program.
  • Manage branch sales performance, business plans, customer service levels, and status of branch projects in coordination with Operations and Sales Leadership.
  • Develop capital expenditure plan and manage branch financial performance (statement of operations, account delinquency reports, etc.) in coordination with District Manager.
  • Manage branch operations and directly reporting personnel conducting Electrical Testing and/or Tool Maintenance in mobile units, test labs, or tool shops.
  • Monitor and approve operational expenses and salaries for direct reports.
  • Ensure all branch activities are prioritized and accomplished in a timely manner according to company policy and procedure.
  • Participate in trade organizations and activities to identify trends and evaluate competition.
  • Acquire, use and continuously develop personal technical and professional knowledge of products, tools and general managerial skills to assist customers and other company personnel.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Knowledge of supervisory practices and principles.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret financial reports, general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, legal documents or governmental regulations.
  • Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community.
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to effectively communicate, orally and in writing, and present information to top management, customers, vendors, employees and general public.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
  • Ability to perform math functions representative of the job such as: addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, and percentages; Compute rate, ratio, and draw and interpret graphs.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions in order to solve practical problems where only limited information and standardization exists.
  • Ability to interpret an extensive variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Associate's Degree (A. A.) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school; and 5-7 years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. A four-year degree is preferred.
