Job Purpose

ICE is seeking a Lead Java Developer, Environmental Markets within the clearing technology team. The ICE clearing technology team is responsible for building the software that allows ICE's clearing houses to process millions of transactions a day, reliably and efficiently. ICE clearing houses finalize trades, settle accounts, and collect margin payments every day. The Lead Developer will focus on working with our clearing houses, around the world, to build and maintain software systems that provide Clearing, Physical Delivery, and Registry operations for Global Environmental markets and carbon registry infrastructure essential to achieve net-zero emissions by 2050.

ICE has operated environmental markets for almost two decades. During this time, over 100 billion tons of carbon allowances, over 250 million renewable energy certificates, three billion carbon credits, and the equivalent of over 1.7 billion Renewable Identification Numbers have traded on ICE, reflecting ICE's role as the world's leading environmental marketplace.

The Lead Developer will follow established design patterns and architectural principles, and collaborate well with QA, product management and other functional teams to implement high quality solutions to user requirements. The ideal candidate for this position will be a self-directed individual with a passion for excellence and demonstrable experience in leading teams that develop and maintain diverse business applications containing complex workflows and business rules. The role requires strong knowledge of server-side technologies, good experience with iterative development and SDLC tools, and the ability to work well with others.

Responsibilities

• Lead the design and development of applications supporting Clearing, Physical Delivery, and Registry operations for Global Environmental markets.
• Lead efforts to design, architect, and write new software systems and components.
• Work with business analysts or product management in understanding new requirements and solving business problems.
• Plan and estimate the development of key components, applications, and systems.
• Independently handle project activities related to builds and deployments.
• Create design documentation for new software development and subsequent versions.
• Mentor developers including reviewing designs and code.
• Create unit tests, verify the functionality and quality of the software.
• Provide second-tier production support for 24/7 applications.
• Provide support for deployments during maintenance windows.
• Troubleshoot issues as they arise, in the dev, QA and production rollout cycles.
• Keep test environments up to date and in working order, creating environment-specific configurations and applications as necessary.
• Identify opportunities to improve and optimize applications.
• Follow team guidelines for quality and consistency within the design and development phases of the application(s).
• Follow company software development processes and standards.
• Identify and resolve application security vulnerabilities.

Knowledge and Experience

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
• 7+ years of experience in Java design and development.
• 4+ years of experience with Spring Framework (Spring Boot, Spring MVC, Spring Data, Spring Cloud).
• Able to write and troubleshoot PL/SQL queries, experience with JPA/Hibernate.
• Experience in designing, implementing, and integrating with REST APIs.
• Experience in Java performance tuning, debugging and memory profiling.
• Solid understanding of security concerns for web-based applications.
• Experience with writing comprehensive unit tests.
• Experience with SDLC Tools like GIT, JIRA, Jenkins, Gradle, Maven, or equivalent tools.
• Experience building user-centric web applications with focus on usability, workflows, and performance.
• Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills.
• Working knowledge of software testing, building high quality software, and experience with software testing tools, regression testing, etc.
• Proven success working in a team environment.

Preferred

• Exposure to the financial services technologies domain, particularly in futures and options.
• Experience with at least one JavaScript framework such as React or Angular.
• Experience with Test Driven Development.
• Working knowledge with shell scripts and CLI in Linux.
