Duties/Responsibilities

Duties/Responsibilities

Client services: phone intakes, determination of eligibility for protective orders under Georgia law, in-person interviews, document drafting and filing, ex parte hearings, case investigation, obtaining admissible evidence, interviewing witnesses, hearing preparation, courtroom representation, follow-up as applicable, referrals to community resources as applicable

Duties/Responsibilities

Community Outreach: The Intern will network and collaborate with community service providers, prosecutors, defense attorneys (public defenders and private bar), law enforcement, court personnel, and others in the course of representing clients in protective order hearings. Additionally, the Intern will develop and deliver trainings and other presentations on domestic violence to community groups and law enforcement.

Research: Westlaw/Lexis and general research on legal and extra-legal issues as the Intern sees necessary and at the direction of the Clinic Director
